Date & Time: - 19 Jun

Venue:Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre
Address: 30A Kreta Ayer Road
Singapore 088997

It is our great privilege to have our dearest Teacher, His Holiness the 9th Dagyab Kyabgoen Rinpoche Loden Sherab, to once again be here in Singapore to lead us in this especially joyous Dharma event. Rinpoche brings along with him a 18-strong entourage of Lamas, who were all specially chosen for their experience and skill in the field of rituals. It has been over a year since we have hosted our Teachers and we know of many who have been awaiting for our grand puja event in great anticipation! Our good karma has ripened, and we are fortunate once more to invite Rinpoche and all the monks to be here with us.

We shall all have the blessed opportunity to receive the blessing initiations (jenang) of Namtose and for the very first time, the Red Tara Power Initiation. Rinpoche is also most compassionate to be conferring the (wang) great empowerment of the Thousand-Arms Chenrezig (Kuan Yin) practice to all of us. This is very special as this is the very first time we receive this, and the great empowerment is to be received in 2 sessions. The blessings of these initiations are immeasurable, and very precious and helpful to our spiritual practice. Receiving an initiation purifies all the actions of our body, speech and mind, and removes our moral and mental defilements. It is like planting a seed, whereby later with the right conditions, the seed will ripen, sprout and grow into Buddhahood.

It is also a very special occasion to have our 18 Gaden Shartse Monastery lamas conduct some of the most rare and important pujas during the course of our 3-day event. From the positive feedback we have gathered from devotees and participants, the Pujas we have organized in the past have proven to be very helpful in transforming their problems and obstacles. With pure motivation and faith when participating in these pujas, it is certain that these prayers are going to benefit us tremendously. You are most welcome to join us for all the pujas, just like many others will.

See you there at Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre!

Four Hundred Grand Offerings & Cleansing Puja

Specially to overcome all major obstacles, prolonged period of bad luck and all negativity, esp. related to supernatural harrassment

What: The ritual of the Four Hundred Grand Offerings Puja was specially passed down by Lord Buddha to subdue the four demons. Due to its effectiveness, this is one of the most widely-conducted pujas in Tibetan Buddhism. The 400 grand offerings include 100 stupas – to overcome the Demon of the Five Contaminated Aggregates, 100 ritual cakes – to conquer the Demon of Desires; 100 light offerings – to eradicate the Demon of Delusions; and 100 human-effigies (made from dough) to subdue the Demon of Death.

Why: Performing this puja helps significantly in overcoming all major obstacles, especially those relating to supernatural forces. This puja aids in overcoming charms and spells, pacifies inauspiciousness from small conflicts to major calamities, avoid attacks from plague and other diseases; and is especially effective in overcoming supernatural attacks of evil spirits and demons,

How: Interested participants, kindly bring along a worn and unwashed shirt to participate in this puja. These old shirts will be disposed off as part of process of the puja, symbolizing eradication of our negativities, bad energy and all obstacles. Please also bring some coins and half-eaten biscuits for the puja. There are specific offerings for participation of this puja, please kindly invite it at an offering of $10 per set at the puja event

During the puja, visualize all your obstacles & negativity of your past & present lives are being taken away by the substitute figurine. Throw away your shirt which takes away your physical pain, and generate in your mind infinite food and money offerings to offer to all your debtors. Once the substitute is being sent out, think you have no more relationship with all these supernatural beings, and all your obstacles are ceased.

Leng Chag Torma Grand Puja

Lord Buddha

Specially to repay karmic debts of past lifetimes

What : Since beginningless time, we have been trapped in this uncontrolled cyclic existence of samsara, and have undergone countless reincarnations. Although we are unable to recall what we did in our previous lives, it is certain that we must have committed many acts of greed and hatred out of our ignorance - which explains why we are still unable to be liberated from samsara. It is also certain that we must have accumulated many debts in all these lifetimes, ie. we could have owed someone a sum of money, or even a mere sack of rice, or in serious cases, we could have harmed others or caused their deaths.

Why : When we do not repay such debts and they accumulate, these debtors may one day return to seek revenge against us, especially during times when we are experiencing low luck. They can cause us various obstacles, from illnesses to problems at work, sleepless nights, nothing seems to go smooth, or in worse scenarios, could be even fatal. Through the performance of this Leng Chag Torma Puja - by offering torma (ritual cake offerings) to the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Protectors, and together with the immaculate blessings by the Holy Speech of the Buddha’s texts, we purify the negative karma that we have accumulated over the reincarnations and pay off these incurred debts.

Grand Puja for Forceful Release of Black Magic & Curses

Specially to dispel black magic, curses and spells which affects career/business or health

What : This is a special healing puja which helps not only in subduing black magic and curses, but is also very beneficial for alleviating health problems – especially mental-related conditions such as anxiety, depression, or people who are prone to suffer from nervous breakdowns. It is also a most effective puja for people who appear to be in a persistent limp state of body and mind to attend. The Healing Lama Kangyur Rinpoche previously explained during his visit, when others bear grudges or hatred against you secretly, and after a prolonged period of time, it naturally forms into a negative energy against us (even though it may not be deliberate or intentional). This negative force is akin to a curse and is harmful to us because it makes us feel listless and weak in body and mind.

Interested participants must attend the puja personally should they wish to receive the full blessings and benefit. In one particular procedure of the puja, the Lamas will have to tie up each participant with 5 different colour of threads, which signifies 5 different types of obstacles and problems we are entrapped in. These include health problems, black magic spells, curses, witchcraft as well as negative karma we have accumulated since beginningless time. And it is also precisely due to the vicious cycle of accumulation of negative karma that sentient beings are trapped within this endless cycle of uncontrolled existence.

How : This special puja is conducted by reciting and meditating on the practice of Lord Yamantaka which helps to purify all our obstacles. During the puja, the senior Lamas will cut broken the 5 colour threads, symbolic of freeing us from all of our problems, worries, illnesses and negative conditions. At that time we should visualize the Lama as Lord Yamantaka (who is also the emanation of Manjushri), and He uses Manjushri’s Sword of Wisdom to liberate us from the sufferings of the 5 colour threads.

Tara Great Mandala Offering Merit-Increase Grand Puja

Specially for swift merit-increase for health, prosperity, smooth-sailing career and family

What : Various practices of deities and protectors fall under different enlightened activities. There are four different types of enlightened activities, and each activity is represented by a different colour:

  1. Enlightened activity of Pacifying (white)
Pacifying illnesses, obstacles, dangers, supernatural harassment, black magic etc all of which would create hindrances to our life and dharma practice
  2. Enlightened activity of Increasing (yellow)
Increasing positive conditions for merit, success, happiness, health, longevity, peace and prosperity in one’s life and dharma practice
  3. Enlightened activity of Subjugating (red)
Subjugating and overcoming external forces (both human and non-human), which cannot be tamed through peaceful methods of the earlier two activities
  4. Enlightened activity of Wrath (black)
Involves wrathful and forceful methods to accomplish activities for enlightened purposes, which cannot be achieved by engaging in any other methods
We are most fortunate to receive below initiations/empowerment from HH Dagyab Rinpoche during the Grand Puja:
  • RED TARA (practice falls under category 3 - Enlightened activity of Subjugating)
  • NAMTOSE (practice falls under category 2 - Enlightened activity of Increasing)
  • THOUSAND-ARMS CHENREZIG (practice falls under category 1 - Enlightened activity of Pacifying)

Red Tara Why : Tara is a fully enlightened Buddha, her enlightened activities are numerous and powerful beyond comprehension. At a relative level, she is associated with conferring blessings of obstacle-clearing, longevity, prosperity, protection and so forth. At an ultimate level, she confers all the wisdoms for the realization of the ultimate state of Buddhahood. There are many aspects of Tara, of which the 21-Tara emanations perform different activities and confer swift blessings of health, prosperity, success and power and so forth. Tara’s colour also corresponds to each enlightened activity as mentioned above - White Tara for pacifying; Yellow Tara for increasing; Red Tara for subjugating; and Green Tara for wrathful activity.

Red Tara is one of the 21-Tara emanations. Red Tara is a very powerful deity which subdues the three realms – desire, form and formless realms. She is red in colour, symbolizing the activity of power and magnetizing. Red Tara confers the power of magnetizing everything beneficial, summoning and attracting all the positive and helpful conditions for one’s well-being, with the ultimate aim of benefitting all sentient beings. For example, by engaging in the Red Tara practice, we could draw essence of health, wealth, wisdom, obstacle-clearing – to successfully accomplish both the temporal and ultimate happiness of all sentient beings.

In summary, the Red Tara practice assists us in increasing our abilities (by attracting the power of the three realms) so as to swiftly obtain various attainments. Of course, one needs to be gently reminded that we should engage in all practices with the pure motivation of bodhicitta and compassion. With pure motivation, we shall be able to receive great blessings of the inconceivable magnetizing power of Red Tara; and every action becomes a direct cause for enlightenment and all virtuous minds.

How : Tara Great Mandala Offering Merit-Increase Grand Puja.

This Grand Puja makes special (four) Mandala Offerings to Goddess Tara, so as to achieve attainments and success in the four activities: Pacifying, Increasing, Subjugating and Wrath. The objects of offering of this puja are vast, hence the benefits derived are very great as well. The main object of offering is Goddess Tara, and in addition, also meant towards (2) All protectors, (3) Area gods, wordly deities and nagas, and finally (4) all sentient beings, whomever in need for these offerings.

The mandala offering is a powerful method for accumulating extensive merit in a short time. It is a very skilful means of accumulating two types merit: ordinary merit and primordial wisdom merit. We visualize offering of the whole universe to all the Buddhas and Bodhisatvas, the Dharma and the Sangha. All the wealth of the whole universe is symbolized by the offerings and precious stones held in your hand. You visualize it to be real jewels and precious stones - all the wealth of the universe, and you offer it to the Three Jewels.

With the great merit accumulated from the great offering of the Four Mandalas, one purifies all obstacles and increases success for all aspects of our lives: health, business, career, happiness, and of course, our dharma practice.

The mandala offering is a practice which is unsurpassed for its many qualities that enable you to accumulate merit easily, without any danger of engaging in deceit. Many great yogis and pundits, including the Lama Tsongkhapa took the Mandala Offering as one of their principal practices. Lama Tsongkhapa did many hundreds of thousands of mandala offerings and realized the unmistaken view—shunyata, and then achieved enlightenment. The benefit of presenting a mandala offering is inconceivable temporal and ultimate happiness results, and eventually achieving a Buddha field of your own.

Namtose Great Wealth-Congregating & Fortune Blessing Grand Puja

Namtose

What : In Buddhism, fortune and wealth refers to ‘merit’ - because everything good that we possess is established from merit. Every form of success, every piece of happiness, every kind of enjoyment can only be materialized should there be enough merit to support it. To have merit means to have wealth and assets; if there is no or insufficient merit, then one encounters many negative conditions and obstacles. Even in the Buddhist path, you also need to practise and fulfill both merit accumulation as well as karma purification to be able to attain Bodhicitta.

Namtose, also known as Vaisravana, is a famous protector and wealth deity of Esoteric Buddhism. Namtose is one of them The Four Great Kings who have promised Buddha Shakyamuni to preserve and protect the teachings of Buddha. They are regarded as authentic Dharma Protectors since the time of Lord Buddha.

Even though he has achieved supreme Enlightenment since infinite aeons before, he manifested himself as a Bodhisattva with the aim of helping others overcome poverty and misery. For centuries, great Buddhist practitioners and yogis relied on his practice for wealth, protection and cultivation of the path. Practitioners should generate the altruistic intention of compassion (Bodhicitta), and practice generosity. This practice can remove poverty within the six realms, and increase one’s merits, wisdom and lifespan. All their material and spiritual needs will be met.

Why : The Namtose wealth grand puja summons immense positive wealth energies upon the puja participants, and is a very effective method to invoke positive wealth energy of the universe and its inhabitants. Though getting rich is a result of one’s past actions, participating in such wealth-congregating pujas play a significant role in its own way to change the course of one’s financial situation. With a sincere motivation to accumulate merit, purify our negative karma, as well as make prayers for all sentient beings to be freed from all poverty and all sufferings, without doubt - one will certainly receive the vast blessings and protection of Namtose.

How : Interested participants, please feel welcome to bring along your wealth vases, fortune wands and amulets for recharge of wealth blessings and energies during the puja.

Thousand-Arms Chenrezig (Kuan Yin) Great Empowerment (wang)

Thousand Arms Chenrezig

What : Chenrezig (Kuan Yin) is known as “Bodhisattva of Great Compassion” because she is the embodiment of compassion of all infinite Buddhas. Chenrezig represents the benevolent wishes of all the ten directional Buddhas; Praying, prostrating and presenting offerings to Chenrezig is the same as paying homage to all Buddhas. Due to her vow to liberate all sentient beings, she manifests into various forms to benefit different beings and has an especially close affinity with sentient beings of this age.

Why : The heart mantra of Chenrezig is “Om Mani Padme Hum”. The meaning of this mantra is so great and vast that it is said to encompass all the teachings of Lord Buddha. “Om” is the root to all heart mantras and possesses inconceivable blessings; “Mani” - meaning wish-fulfilling jewel, can grant all altruistic wishes and is capable of removing poverty or difficulties of the cyclic existence. “Padme” refers to lotus. Chenrezig holds a white lotus in her hand, symbolizing the untainted wisdom that realizes the emptiness of inherent existence. Both the wish-fulfilling jewel and lotus together represents the complete unity of method and wisdom. “Hum” refers to the transformation of our (laymen) impure body, speech and mind into the pure exalted body, speech and mind of a Buddha after receiving the blessings. The six syllables also represent the ability to be liberated from the ignorance, delusions and sufferings from the six realms, allowing all sentient beings to attain the ultimate Buddhahood

How : The scriptures record: The benefits and merits of the six syllable mantra is inconceivable, chanting it can alleviate and destroy sufferings of illnesses, punishment, fear of untimely death, increase one’s lifespan, as well as invite wealth and fortune. The benefits are so aplenty that even at the time of death, doors to rebirth of the lower realms will be closed, and one will be able to gain a rebirth in the human or god realm. It is not only the source of all happiness, it is also the foundation of reaching the destination to the path of liberation, of opening up wisdom, of realizing great bodhicitta, as well as saving and benefiting all sentient beings of the six realms. Chanting the mantra is so meritorious, it purifies our negative karma accumulated from beginningless time, it also helps destroy our afflictive emotions and delusion – helping us attain Enlightenment swiftly.
