This powerful puja, based on the practice of Yamantaka, aims to remove obstacles and harm caused by mamo beings—imprecatory female spirits from the hungry ghost realm. Mamos are often depicted as fierce, dark-complexioned, and half-naked with emaciated breasts and matted hair. They invoke curses that can bring plagues upon humans and animals alike. Historically, mamos have been linked to devastating diseases. In daily life, we may unknowingly offend the mamos, as they are formless beings invisible to the human eye. An unclean space, for instance, may attract their presence, leading to disturbances and misfortune. Those with less merits are particularly vulnerable to their wrath.
This elaborate grand puja requires over ten different types of special offerings to pacify and satisfy the mamos. Participants are requested to bring an unwashed shirt (to be disposed of as part of the ritual), which symbolizes the eradication of negativity. Generating strong faith and confidence in the ritual enhances its effectiveness.

Among all puja rituals, this one is uniquely performed to clear obstacles in the most effective and swift manner. It follows a sacred cross-thread ritual based on the teachings and mantra personally conferred by Buddha Shakyamuni. During Buddha’s time, countless negative forces brought harm to sentient beings. While our experiences in this life are shaped by our own karma accumulated over past lifetimes, these forces can act as catalysts, accelerating obstacles and misfortunes. To counter this, Buddha revealed this powerful mantra and ritual to subdue negativity. This puja helps to remove afflictions such as misfortunes, epidemics, bad omens, victimization, misguidance, and both mental and physical disturbances. Additionally, it offers great benefit to beings who have passed away, helping them on their journey beyond this life.
