Calm-Abiding, or Shamatha in Tibetan, is a meditation practice focused on developing deep concentration and mental stability. The goal is to cultivate a state of calm and clarity by training the mind to be present and undistracted. Special Insight, or Vipashyana, involves a meditation practice aimed at developing wisdom and penetrating understanding of the nature of phenomena. It often follows the practice of Calm-Abiding and focuses on seeing the true nature of reality. Combining Shamatha and Vipashyana offers a holistic approach to meditation that addresses both the stability of the mind and the depth of insight.
