Rinpoche & His Teachers
His Eminence Thupten Tenzin Rinpoche was born in Spiti Valley, in Himachal Pradesh, India, in 1964. He became a monk at the age of 8 at the local Dhankar Monastery, and later enrolled in Gaden Shartse Monastery to further his studies. At the age of 32, Rinpoche achieved the highest academic degree in the Gelug tradition, the Geshe Lharampa degree (equivalent to a PhD). He later went on to complete advanced tantric studies at Gyuto Tantric Monastery. In addition to his scholarly achievements, Rinpoche is also highly skilled in conducting rituals and pujas. Rinpoche served as the Abbot of Gyuto Tantric Monastery from 2017 to 2020, where he was in charge of the spiritual education and overall administration of the monastery. His leadership contributed significantly to the preservation and development of tantric studies and monastic discipline.
